How To Do An SEO Audit Of Your WordPress Website To Boost Your Google Rankings

Performing a search engine optimization auditing of your website is important for many reasons. On-page SEO markers are the most important aspects of SEO auditing. For WordPress sites, Yoast SEO plugin will help to continuously monitor the status of on page SEO.
If you opt for the manual auditing, then you should review the below mentioned factors…

HTML – The HTML markup is very important for SEO, as it contains a lot of important information. However, this won’t be a problem for Quality theme (which is updated regularly in WordPress). If not, it is important to monitor the HTML constantly.

Titles – The titles should be relevant, precise and unique with proper keyword optimization. While the Yoast plugin is helpful for WordPress sites, you can also check it with Screaming Frog’s Page Titles tab and HTML Improvements under Search Appearance in Google Search Console for any title duplication.

Meta description – the description should be relevant, unique and keyword optimized and below 172 characters. Yoast and other SEO plugins are available, they can also be checked with Screaming Frog.

URLs –  URLs must be short, user friendly and has a keyword added into it. Use proper permalinks, i.e., the URL to each post should be permanent, and never change, hence the name permalink. While WordPress does this automatically, it is easy for checking.

Headings – Heading tags are very important for structuring the content and making it easy to scan. H1 tags are used only in titles.

Precise Content – The content should be Unique, precise, value-added and should not exceed 300 words. Keywords should be properly placed with no keyword stuffing.

Images – Ensure ALT tags, file titles, SEO markers for all images and should  contain keywords also. WordPress has an image plugin, while Screaming Frog you can reduce image size for faster loading.

Links – it is a Key factor. The chance of dead links increases with site grows.Hence frequent link checking is important. WordPress plugins are available to find the broken links.

Keywords – For WordPress, leave this to the Yoast plugin. However, it optimizes only one page per a focus keyword. If a repetition occurs, Yoast will point it out.

Technical errors – Crawling error can be found on Google Search Console. If found any, correct the nonexistent pages with the 404 error. Redirect the URLs of these pages to places with the necessary information are available.

Duplicate content – Siteliner.com can find duplicate contents on your website.
